Village Market at Southampton Station returns

Southampton residents kicked off the debut of the bi-weekly village Market at Southampton Station on Saturday May 14. The market will operate on every 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month thru October, from 9AM to 1PM. Proceeds will benefit the SRRSS efforts in restoration of the station building.

The Village Market is an independent community organization not affiliated with The Southampton Railroad Station Society.

Southampton Station to go electric

January 28, 2011 - At the January 20, 2011 board meeting, the S.R.R.S.S. put into motion preliminary plans to restore electrical service to the historic Southampton Station building. A local Upper Southampton electrical contractor will be volunteering time to perform the labor to install the electrical systems, and tie in the existing parking lot and platform lights. Additional temporary lighting will be installed to illuminate the building until renovations are completed.

The S.R.R.S.S. will purchase the electrical components (200 AMP breaker panel, conduit and wiring), and coordinate the installation of the utility trench with the Upper Southampton public works department, and Excelon (PECO Energy) who will tie in the connection with their power grid.

First Annual Railfest delights community

December 11, 2010 - The first annual railfest benefit was held at the Northampton - Southampton reformed church in Upper Southampton Township for the purpose of raising funds and support for the restoration of the Southampton railroad station building. The event was well attended by over 500 people who came out to enjoy model train layouts, a barbershop chorus, Santa Clause, an appearance by Phoebe Snow, historical societies of Upper Southampton, Newtown, Northampton and Bryn Athyn, and various vendors including Joe's Train Station and Craig Hackett's "Bucks County Expressions".
The Society is grateful for the overwhelming support received from the railfan community, local residents, Upper Southampton Township, and the Northampton - Southampton Reformed Church, for allowing use of their facilities.

Debut of Village Market a success

November 29, 2010 - The Southampton Railroad Station Society hosted the first of many "Village Markets" at the Southampton Railroad Station on Sunday November 28, 2010. Over 20 local resident vendors from Bryn Gweled setup shop on site of the train station to sell home made arts, crafts and locally grown produce. Shoppers and curious onlookers visited the market between 9AM and 1PM, to shop, meet neighbors and freinds.

Not only was the market a success, with over $300 being donated to the S.R.R.S.S., but township residents found a new place to come together to socialize and bring life and commerce back to Southampton Station.

The S.R.R.S.S. extends its thanks to all of the participating vendors, Cathie Forman and Denise Jervis who spent countless hours organzizing and coordinating this event, and to the Upper Southampton Township Administration and Board of Supervisors who helped guide and sanction this event.

The Village Market will return next spring, on a regular basis. Please look to this website for future information regarding the next Village Market at Southampton Station.

S.R.R.S.S Submits application for funding grant

June 2010 - The Southampton Railroad Station Society has submitted an application to the North American Railway Foundation (NARF) for funding to perform basic repairs to the Southampton Station building. The application was accepted by NARF and will be considered at the July 19th, 2010 NARF board meeting. The S.R.S.S. has been told by NARF that the project does qualify for funding under their program. Further developments on this application will be posted on this web page when they are received, most likely in August 2010.
