Southampton Railfest 2010
The first annual railfest benefit was held at the Northampton - Southampton reformed church in Upper Southampton Township for the purpose of raising funds and support for the restoration of the Southampton railroad station building. The event was well attended by over 500 people who came out to enjoy model train layouts, a barbershop chorus, Santa Clause, an appearance by Phoebe Snow, historical societies of Upper Southampton, Newtown, Northampton and Bryn Athyn, and various vendors including Joe's Train Station and Craig Hackett's "Bucks County Expressions". The Society is grateful for the overwhelming support received from the railfan community, local residents, Upper Southampton Township, and the Northampton - Southampton Reformed Church, for allowing use of their facilities.
Railfest was held at the North-Southampton Reformed Church, in Churchville.
A model of the Bryn Athyn 1921 train wreck was unveiled.
Visitors were treated to displays and train layouts from the Reading Company Technical
Historical Society in the main hall.
Newtown Line historian Richard Mansley was on hand to talk to visitors about his
60+ years of research and documentation on the entire Newtown rail line.
Railfest-goers were treated to the sounds of "The BucksMont Squires of Song" chorus
group.
Children were treated to a special visit by Santa Clause, and his special helper, Phoebe
Snow.
Numerous working train layouts and vendors were on hand, which proved an instant hit
for the children (and their parents).
The postmistress of the Bryn Athyn Post Office was onhand to cancel stamps using a special
commemorative cancellation in honor of the 1921 Bryn Athyn train wreck
