June 22, 2013 - 2nd Annual Station Photo Shoot, Antique Car Show & Society Social

On June 22nd, the Society held a second summer time social, antique car show and evening photo shoot at Southampton's railroad station. This year's photo shoot featured additional antique cars from the 1920's and 1930's, live music and food. The event proved popular for professional and hobbyist photographers. The Society included "props" such as period dress and railroad artifacts featured on the platform and around the station. Special lighting was donated by a SRRSS member to illuminate the station and grounds for night time photography.

December 8, 2012 - 3rd Annual Holiday Railfest, Churchville, PA

For three years in a row, the Society rolled out the red carpet to celebrate model railroading, memorabilia and railroad and local history at the Northampton and Southampton Reformed Church in Churchville, Pennsylvania. This is the Society's largest annual fundraising event to raise funding to support the station restoration effort. Funds raised cover insurance of the station, utilities and materials and supplies for minor stabilization projects on the station building. Funds from the 2011 Railfest bought materials to complete the installation of electric service to the station building.

December 1, 2012 - Main Street Hatboro Train Show

The Southampton Railroad Station Society participated in the annual Hatboro train show at Keith Valley Middle School on December 1, 2012. Society member Jim Rose featured several hand-sketched art pieces of scenes of the Reading Railroad in the 1930's and 40's, and discussed the restoration project with event attendees.

August 10, 2012 - Society hosts evening railfan photo shoot at Southampton Station

Click here for photos Following several months of stabilization work on the station building, the Society inivited the public to tour the station grounds and take photographs of the illuminated station. Funds raised from this event will go towards keeping the train platform lit. With the completion of the restoration of electrical service, the Society is now moving forward with the larger restoration projects.

December 10, 2011 - Second Annual Holiday Railfest

Click here for photos Adults and children were treated to the Society's second annual holiday railfest, which featured operating train layouts, various booths from local organizations, model railroading vendors, Christmas carols, and a visit from Santa Claus and Phoebe Snow.

Following several months of planning and coordination between the Society, the electrical contractor, Upper Southampton Public Works and Code Enforcement, and SEPTA, electrical service was re-installed to the station building via an underground trench. This milestone will permit some basic stabilization work of the building in the spring of 2012.

Platform Light Stantion Refurbishment Project - October 2011

Click here for photos Members of the Society spent several weekends in October stripping and repainting the platform lights, and placing protective coverings over the light heads until they are ready to be placed back into service.

Armed Forces Day Railfest May 21, 2011

Armed Forces day railfest 2011 The Southampton Railroad Station Society hosted its first annual "Armed Forces Day" Railfest at Klinger Middle School in Upper Southampton Township. The event was a delight to children and parents, hobbyists and volunteers who helped coordinate and run the event.

Southampton Days Parade July 4, 2011

The Southampton Railroad Station Society and Bryn Gwylled Village Market were onhand to greet residents with an information table, refreshments, and locally crafted goods.

Village Market at Southampton Station - Nov 2010

The first outdoor village market was held November 28th at the Southampton Railroad Station, with over 20 vendors participating in selling locally made arts, crafts and locally grown produce. Proceeds from the days events were donated to the S.R.R.S.S. for restoration of the station building. Future Village markets will be held at the station in the spring of 2011.

4th of July 2010 Upper Southampton Parade

The Southampton Railroad Station Society participated in the annual Southampton Days parade along Second Street Pike again in 2010. Members Frank Baldwin, Charles Liberto and Leon Duminiak manned the booth at the Station, while conductor James Rose walked the pike next to a replica camelback steam locomotive, ensuring that parade goers had their tickets punched for the Applebee's fundraiser event on July 17.

On loan from the Reading Company Technical & Historical Society, the replica camelback steam engine, complete with working bell, makes its way up Second Street Pike, and across the tracks where trains once whisked Southampon residents to Reading Terminal and beyond.

1921 Bryn Athyn Train Wreck Memorial March 20, 2010


Member Regina Frey collects photos and news clippings from relatives of who were involved in the 1921 Bryn Athyn Train wreck.

Relatives of those involved in the 1921 train wreck talk with Newtown line expert historian, Mr. Richard Mansley. Mr. Mansley has devoted much of his life to recording and recording and documenting events, people and structures on the Newtown line.
